Nagaland Potato Festival 2026 Highlights Agri-Trade Potential at Jakhama

Jakhama, May 15: The third edition of the Nagaland Potato Festival 2026 was held at Jakhama Village Ground on Friday, showcasing the growing agri-trade potential of potato cultivation in Nagaland and celebrating the contribution of local farmers and entrepreneurs.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Nagaland Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, formally inaugurated the festival as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Nagaland Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse said the festival was not merely a celebration of potatoes but also a recognition of farmers, agricultural land and the expanding opportunities within Nagaland’s agri-trade sector. She expressed hope for continued support towards farmers, local entrepreneurs and line departments to strengthen the state’s agricultural future.

The programme was hosted by Visakunu Tetso and Vikhehiezo Kulnu, while Rev Zapovil Sophie, Senior Pastor of Jakhama Baptist Church, offered the invocation.

Kehochol Tase, Chairman of Jakhama Village Council, delivered the welcome address, followed by greetings from Kevipodi Sophie, MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Kohima.

In the keynote address, Dr Keviu Shüya, Deputy Project Director of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima, highlighted the importance of potato farming and the trade opportunities associated with the crop in Nagaland.

Short speeches were also delivered by Veyielo Doulo, Director of the Department of Tourism, and the Commanding Officer of the 7th Battalion Madras Regiment, Jakhama Military Station.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Avilie Zhotso, Convenor of Nagaland Potato Festival 2026, followed by visits to stalls displaying local potato products and agricultural innovations.

The festival aimed to promote sustainable agriculture, local entrepreneurship and market opportunities for potato growers across the state.
