Mizoram: Union Minister Tokhan Sahu Reviews PMAY-U Projects, Visits Key Institutions in Champhai

Champhai, May 29, 2026: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, on Friday visited several locations in Champhai district to review the implementation of government welfare schemes and inspect important public institutions.

The minister began his visit at Zote locality, where he inspected houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U). Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the scheme, Sahu noted that beneficiaries had successfully utilized government assistance to build quality homes. Beneficiaries, in turn, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the housing initiative, which has enabled many families without permanent homes to own houses.

Following the visit to Zote, the minister toured Champhai District Hospital, where he was received by District Medical Superintendent Dr. Zatluanga and other staff members. He inspected various hospital facilities and reviewed the functioning of healthcare services provided by the institution.

Sahu also visited the Kahrawt Anganwadi Centre, where he interacted with children, parents, and Anganwadi workers. He enquired about attendance, daily activities, and challenges faced by the centre. During the interaction, Anganwadi workers highlighted the need for a dedicated Anganwadi building.

The Union Minister later visited Shakti Sadan at Champhai Vengthlang, a shelter home for women facing difficult circumstances, including survivors of violence and women without family support. Officials informed him about the services provided at the facility and the duration of stay available for residents. Sahu also extended financial assistance during his visit.

As part of his tour, the minister inspected Keilungliah Cave, where officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department briefed him on ongoing and proposed initiatives to develop the site as a tourist destination.

After completing his engagements in Champhai, the Union Minister returned to Aizawl in the evening. The visit focused on reviewing welfare schemes, healthcare services, child development programmes, women’s welfare initiatives, and tourism development projects in the district.
