Mamit, May 23, 2026: Mizoram Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pu Vanlalhlana on Friday inaugurated the Terei Bridge on the Bairabi–Zamuang road and the Langkaih Bridge connecting Mizoram and Tripura, marking a major step toward improving regional connectivity and infrastructure development in the state.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima, Lunglei West MLA Pu T. Lalhlimpuia, senior PWD officials and representatives associated with the bridge construction projects.
Speaking at the event, Pu Vanlalhlana described the occasion as a joyful and historic moment for Mizoram. He said the inauguration of the bridges represented not only the completion of major infrastructure projects but also the fulfilment of promises made to the people.
The minister expressed confidence that the bridges would significantly strengthen connectivity, facilitate movement and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
Referring to the Langkaih Bridge, which links Mizoram with neighbouring Tripura, Pu Vanlalhlana described it as a “Border Bridge” that would further strengthen ties between the two states and improve interaction, trade and transportation.
He also highlighted the immense developmental potential of Mamit district and urged the people to continue contributing sincerely toward the district’s progress and growth.
The minister praised the efforts of the Public Works Department and engineers involved in the projects and encouraged government employees to continue serving the public with dedication and integrity.
Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima and MLA Pu T. Lalhlimpuia also addressed the gathering, stating that the bridges would serve as vital links connecting communities and neighbouring states while boosting economic activities and public convenience. The event was chaired by Engineer-in-Chief of PWD, Er. Zoramliana.
According to officials, the Terei Bridge project received NABARD funding amounting to Rs 1,365.60 lakh sanctioned in November 2016. The construction work was awarded to M/s Sadguru Engineers & Allied Services Private Limited in July 2017 with an agreement amount of Rs 1,276.74 lakh. Located around 7 km from Bairabi, the double-lane steel girder bridge was completed at a total expenditure of Rs 2,765.60 lakh, including NABARD and SASCI funding.

Meanwhile, the Langkaih Bridge project received NABARD RIDF-XXIII funding of Rs 2,231.91 lakh sanctioned in January 2018. The work was awarded to the same construction firm in March 2018 at an agreement amount of Rs 2,203.26 lakh. The bridge is strategically located on the Mizoram–Tripura border between Kanhmun village and Damcherra village.
Officials stated that the new bridges are expected to improve road connectivity, facilitate transportation and support long-term regional development in Mizoram.
