Imphal, May 16: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Friday visited the campus of the National Sports University (NSU) at Koutruk, Haraothel, to review the progress of ongoing infrastructure development works along with MLAs, the Vice Chancellor and concerned officials.
During
the visit, the Chief Minister inspected various facilities under construction
and reviewed the status of key infrastructure projects at the university
campus.
In a
statement, Khemchand said the National Sports University, established under the
leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is India’s first dedicated
sports university and stands as a major recognition of Manipur’s rich sporting
legacy and contribution to Indian sports.
He said
the people of Manipur deeply appreciate the initiative, which aims to empower
youth and strengthen sports infrastructure in the state.
The Chief
Minister expressed satisfaction over the pace of construction and noted that
major facilities including the Administrative Block, Academic Wing, hostels and
other infrastructure are nearing completion. He said the inauguration of the
facilities is targeted for December this year.
“With key
facilities nearing completion, the university is set to emerge as a premier
centre of sporting excellence in the country,” Khemchand stated.

Officials
informed that the university infrastructure project is progressing steadily and
is expected to significantly boost sports education, training and research
opportunities in the region.
The
National Sports University, located in Manipur - widely regarded as India’s
sporting powerhouse - is envisioned as a premier institution for sports
sciences, coaching, physical education and athlete development at the national
level.
The visit comes amid the state government’s continued focus on strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting youth development through specialised institutions and training facilities.
