Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Mizoram ginger is known for its high quality, medicinal properties, rich essential oil content and low fibre, making it highly suitable for both domestic and export markets.

Highlighting the state government’s efforts to boost the sector, Lalduhoma said the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved the “Mizoram Ginger USP – Sustainable Cultivation & Value Chain Development Project” worth around Rs. 190 crore.

He informed that Rs. 30.13 crore has already been sanctioned for setting up ginger processing units in the state. The main processing unit will be established at Mualkawi in Champhai district, while supporting units are planned at Tualcheng, Vaphai and Zotlang to benefit ginger farmers across the region.

The Chief Minister emphasised that sustainable and organic farming practices are essential not only for improving market value but also for protecting soil health. He noted that dependence on selling raw ginger alone results in lower profits and wastage, while processing and value addition can significantly improve farmers’ income.

Adviser to the Chief Minister Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva also addressed the programme and credited farmers from Samthang and nearby areas for the success of ginger procurement initiatives. He stated that the government has already spent around Rs. 18 crore on support price procurement for ginger this year.
