Guwahati, May 16: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated India’s first AI-powered ‘phygital’ branch of Slice Small Finance Bank at GS Road in Guwahati, marking a significant step in Assam’s digital transformation journey.
The next-generation banking facility combines physical banking services with advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure, offering customers a seamless and technology-driven banking experience. The branch introduces paperless transactions, automated onboarding systems, and digitally enabled customer services aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony in Dispur, the Chief Minister described the launch as a major milestone in the future of banking and financial innovation in the country.
“Stepping into the future of banking with the inauguration of India’s first AI-powered digital branch of Slice in Dispur,” Dr. Sarma stated.
He said the initiative reflects Assam’s growing position as an emerging hub for technology, innovation, and investment in the Northeast. Highlighting the state’s changing economic landscape, the Chief Minister noted that several leading institutions and companies are now establishing their presence in Guwahati, creating new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for the youth of Assam.
Dr. Sarma also stressed the importance of maintaining a positive and investment-friendly environment to sustain the state’s development momentum and attract more national and global investors.
The Chief Minister said the government remains committed to promoting innovation-driven growth and expanding tech-enabled services across sectors, including banking and finance.
The AI-powered ‘phygital’ branch is expected to enhance customer convenience by integrating digital efficiency with physical accessibility, offering faster and more streamlined banking operations for users.
