In a statement issued on May 13, the Chief Minister described the incident as a “dastardly terror act” carried out by armed miscreants targeting innocent civilians.

According to the statement, the attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to four others. Of the injured, three were shifted to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Imphal for medical treatment.

The Chief Minister stated that he, along with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs and senior officials, visited the injured persons at the hospital and enquired about their condition.

He assured that the Manipur government would bear all medical expenses of the injured and directed authorities to provide them with the highest standard of care.

“This act of violence is deeply troubling and devastating not only for the families but for the entire state, as it disrupts our path to peace,” the Chief Minister said, adding that Manipur was gradually moving toward normalcy and that such incidents undermine collective peace efforts.

Condemning terrorism and violence against innocent civilians, Khemchand stated that such acts had “no room in a civilized society” and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to fight terrorism and restore peace in the state.

The Chief Minister also appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, show restraint and avoid emotional reactions that could further aggravate tensions.

He specifically urged people to immediately stop incidents of abduction, hostage-taking and intimidation along community lines, warning that such actions would only worsen the situation.

“I assure the people that we will use every resource of the State to bring the perpetrators and their handlers to justice,” he said.

The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the deadly ambush on church leaders and civilians travelling through Kangpokpi district earlier in the day.
