Maipur: Security Forces Destroy 23 Illegal Bunkers in Ukhrul, Recover Arms and Ammunition

Imphal, May 1, 2026: Manipur Police said security forces destroyed 23 illegally constructed bunkers during an operation conducted on April 30 in several hill ranges of Ukhrul district.

According to police, the bunkers were located in the hill ranges of Mongkot Chepu, Shongphel, Mullam, Sirarakhong and Ringui villages under Litan Police Station.

During the operation, security forces recovered one 12-bore pump action gun, 17 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres, 111 fired cartridge cases, a battery charger, a magazine pouch, and a pair of jungle boots from the sites.

In a separate operation conducted on April 29, security forces recovered weapons and explosives from the T Bongmol village area under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.

The items recovered included two single-barrel rifles, four 9 mm pistols with magazines, 15 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were destroyed at the site.

Police said the operations were part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle illegal militant infrastructure and maintain law and order in sensitive areas of the state.
