The premiere event was attended by Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang as the chief guest, accompanied by Madam Krishna Kumari Rai.

Several dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Ms. Raj Kumari Thapa, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, councillors, senior officials, artists, filmmakers, and guests from Sikkim and Nepal were also present during the programme.

Addressing the gathering before the screening, director Tribeny Rai shared that the film was inspired by her own lived experiences and observations growing up in a family with daughters. She said the story reflects how patriarchal expectations surrounding lineage and identity continue to shape the lives of women across generations.

An alumnus of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Tribeny Rai expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Madam Krishna Kumari Rai for supporting artists and filmmakers in Sikkim and for encouraging a dignified creative environment in the state.

She also spoke about the growing recognition the film has received internationally and expressed hope that audiences would increasingly connect with stories emerging from the Himalayan region through authentic local voices and storytelling.

Following the address, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang felicitated the artists, cast, and crew associated with the film in recognition of their contribution to cinema and the arts.

“Shape of Momo” presents a realistic and emotionally nuanced portrayal of life, identity, migration, womanhood, and social expectations in the Himalayan region. The film follows the journey of a woman who leaves her job and returns to her hometown to begin a new chapter in life.

Rather than relying on dramatic storytelling, the film adopts a restrained and authentic narrative style, exploring themes of belonging, family dynamics, aspiration, tradition, and personal freedom through everyday experiences and relationships.

The title “Shape of Momo” itself serves as a symbolic metaphor reflecting social expectations and the invisible moulds people are often expected to fit into.

The film is produced under the banner of Dalle Khursani Productions by Geeta Rai and Kislay. Actor-producer Rana Daggubati’s company Spirit Media is handling the distribution of the film across India and Nepal.

Prominent Indian filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, and Payal Kapadia have also joined the project as executive producers, helping bring wider attention to the film.

Prior to its official release, “Shape of Momo” has already won 15 international awards at various film festivals, further highlighting its growing global recognition.
