Aizawl/Champhai, May 5, 2026: In two separate joint operations, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with state police, recovered narcotics worth over ₹57 lakh and apprehended two individuals in Mizoram’s Champhai district.

In the first operation conducted on May 3 at Iron Gate, Zokhawthar, Assam Rifles personnel, along with Zokhawthar Police, seized 18 grams of Heroin No. 4 and 150 tablets of Alprazolam, valued at approximately ₹13.50 lakh. A woman was apprehended during the operation. The recovered contraband and the accused have been handed over to Zokhawthar Police for further investigation.

In another operation on the same day at Zote area of Champhai district, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Champhai Police, recovered 58.04 grams of Heroin No. 4 worth around ₹43.53 lakh. One individual was apprehended and later handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, for legal action.
Officials said the operations highlight ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking along the India–Myanmar border, with Champhai district remaining a sensitive corridor for narcotics movement.
