Assam Prepares for Swearing-in Ceremony of New Council of Ministers

Guwahati, May 5, 2026: Following the conclusion of vote counting for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the state government has initiated extensive preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Council of Ministers. Senior officials have begun coordinating across departments to ensure that the transition of government takes place smoothly, securely, and in accordance with established constitutional protocols.

A high-level review meeting was chaired by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, IAS, in the presence of the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, along with senior officials from various government departments. The meeting focused on finalising the administrative, logistical, and security arrangements required for the upcoming oath-taking ceremony.

During the meeting, officials discussed strategies to ensure seamless coordination among all departments involved in organising the event. Emphasis was placed on meticulous planning, timely execution, and strict adherence to official protocols so that the ceremony reflects the dignity and significance of the democratic process.

Department-wise responsibilities were assigned to streamline preparations and avoid last-minute complications. Officials reviewed key aspects of the event, including programme scheduling, oath-taking formalities, venue preparation, security deployment, invitation management, transportation arrangements, media coordination, hospitality, and overall event management.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota stressed the importance of precision in every aspect of the preparations. He directed all departments to work in close coordination and maintain constant communication to ensure that every arrangement is completed on schedule. He also instructed officials to prepare contingency plans to address any unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the ceremony.

The Director General of Police reviewed security arrangements for the event, with officials discussing measures to ensure the safety of dignitaries, elected representatives, invited guests, government officials, media personnel, and members of the public expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Adequate traffic management and crowd control plans are also being put in place to facilitate smooth movement around the venue.

The review meeting was attended by senior officers from the Departments of Parliamentary Affairs, General Administration, Home & Political, Information and Public Relations, Public Works (Roads), the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration, and officials from Lok Seva Bhawan. Each department was tasked with specific responsibilities to ensure efficient execution of the ceremony.

Officials stated that the preparations are progressing in a coordinated manner and that every effort is being made to organise a well-managed, secure, and dignified swearing-in ceremony for the new Council of Ministers. The event will formally mark the beginning of the new government following the completion of the 2026 Assembly election process in Assam.
