The allocation was made through an official notification issued with the approval of Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The portfolio distribution comes two days after the swearing-in ceremony of the new government and is expected to enable ministers to begin functioning in their respective departments immediately.
According to the notification, senior BJP leader Rameswar Teli has been entrusted with the departments of Transformation and Development, Labour Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare. The combination of portfolios places him in charge of key sectors relating to administrative reforms, labour welfare, and the socio-economic development of tea garden communities and Adivasi populations in the state.
Atul Bora has been assigned the portfolios of Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development, and Excise. These departments are considered crucial for strengthening rural governance, implementing provisions of the historic Assam Accord, improving infrastructure in border areas, and overseeing the state's excise administration.
Meanwhile, Charan Boro has been given charge of the Transport Department along with the Welfare of Bodoland Department. The portfolios are expected to play an important role in improving public transportation services and accelerating welfare and development initiatives in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Senior minister Ajanta Neog has been allotted the Women and Child Development Department and the Tourism Department. She will oversee programmes related to women's empowerment, child welfare, nutrition, and the promotion of Assam's tourism sector, which has emerged as an important contributor to the state's economy.
The allocation of portfolios follows the formation of the BJP-led NDA government after its emphatic victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in for a second consecutive term at a grand ceremony held in Guwahati earlier this week.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, and other senior political leaders, underscoring the significance of the event.
The newly formed government also convened its first Cabinet meeting on May 13, during which several important policy decisions were taken. Among the key decisions were measures aimed at promoting fuel conservation, encouraging environmental sustainability, and introducing administrative reforms to improve governance and service delivery.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with five Cabinet ministers, participated in the inaugural Cabinet meeting and reiterated the government's commitment to efficient administration, accelerated development, and the implementation of its election promises. With the allocation of portfolios now complete, the ministers are expected to assume charge of their departments and begin executing the government's policy agenda across Assam.
