According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Sarma inspected the ongoing construction works and advised officials and the project team to ensure timely completion of the facility, which is expected to play a major role in transforming Assam’s industrial landscape.

The Chief Minister said production from the facility would begin soon, marking the rollout of “Made in Assam” semiconductor chips.

Describing the Jagiroad semiconductor plant as a landmark project for both Assam and India’s semiconductor ambitions, Sarma stated that the facility would have the capacity to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips per day.

The chips are expected to cater to critical sectors including automobiles, telecommunications, consumer electronics and artificial intelligence-driven devices.

Sarma said the project is strategically important as semiconductors form the backbone of modern technology and global supply chains. He added that the facility would place Assam at the centre of India’s efforts towards technological self-reliance and advanced manufacturing under the “Make in India” and “Make in Assam” initiatives.

The Chief Minister further stated that the project would generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, encourage the growth of ancillary industries and help create a strong ecosystem of skilled manpower in the Northeast region.

He also said the project demonstrates Assam’s readiness to host world-class technology investments backed by infrastructure, policy support and a skilled workforce.

“I am personally monitoring every effort to industrialise Assam to ensure the best results for our people and India’s growing economy,” Sarma said, inviting industry leaders to invest in Assam.
