Guwahati, May 1, 2026: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi over remarks made in connection with an ongoing political controversy involving alleged forged documents and defamation claims.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Sarma rejected Singhvi's criticism and asserted that he did not require “lessons on democracy, public discourse or decency” from the senior Congress leader. He accused Singhvi of deliberately avoiding a direct and transparent debate on the issue while making public comments from platforms where he was not present to respond.
The Chief Minister alleged that a woman with no involvement in politics had been subjected to character assassination on national television through the use of what he described as forged documents originating from foreign sources. According to Sarma, the alleged attempt was aimed at influencing electoral outcomes by tarnishing the reputation of an individual unconnected to political affairs.

Sarma expressed confidence that the judicial process would eventually establish the truth. He stated that the courts would carefully examine the allegations and ensure accountability for those responsible for allegedly circulating false documents and maligning the woman's character. He maintained that the matter was serious and should be addressed through due legal process rather than political rhetoric.
The Chief Minister also criticised Singhvi for choosing to make statements in forums where Sarma could not present his side of the argument. Such exchanges, he said, could not be regarded as a fair or balanced public debate.
Concluding his remarks, Sarma signalled that the controversy was far from over and indicated that further developments could follow. “Let me be clear, this is just the beginning, not the end,” he declared, ending his statement with the words, “Satyamev Jayate.”
The exchange marks another escalation in the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Congress over allegations of forged documents, defamation, and the conduct of public political discourse.
