Assam CM Directs Fast-Track Civic Reforms to Build ‘Finest Metropolis’ in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 17: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday reviewed the progress and future roadmap of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, with a focus on improving civic infrastructure and public services in Guwahati.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister assessed key initiatives being implemented by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Jal Board and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

Emphasising citizen-centric urban growth, Sarma directed the concerned agencies to prioritise the supply of pure drinking water, flash flood management, sanitation and the development of open public spaces across the city.

He issued clear instructions to officials to fast-track civic infrastructure projects and improve service delivery mechanisms to address long-standing urban challenges faced by residents of Guwahati.

The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to transforming Guwahati into one of India’s finest metropolitan cities through sustainable urban planning, improved drainage systems, enhanced sanitation and modern civic amenities.

Officials from the Housing and Urban Affairs Department and associated urban agencies also presented updates on ongoing projects and future development plans during the meeting.

The review comes as the Assam government intensifies efforts to modernise urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life in the state capital through technology-driven and people-focused initiatives.
