Parbung, May 16: Hmar Martyrs’ Day 2026 was observed with solemn tributes and cultural programmes at Parbung Mini Stadium in Hmarram under Pherzawl district on Friday. The event was organised under the joint aegis of the Pherzawl District Football Association (PDFA) and HMARTOB Hmarram.

The observance honoured Hmar martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the community. During the programme, HPC (D) Manipur Region organised a remembrance event, while HVV Hmarram presented a gun salute as a mark of respect to the martyrs. Members of the public also paid floral tributes and observed moments of silence in their memory.
Rev. Lalneikhum offered prayers for the families of the martyrs, while Pu Lalsawnlien, speaking on behalf of the martyrs’ families, delivered a message remembering their sacrifices.
Dr. Laldawmsang, Medical Officer of CHC Parbung, attended the event as Chief Guest. Pu Lalpeksang, Manager of Punjab National Bank, Senvon Branch, attended as Guest of Honour, while Pu Joshua Hmar, C-in-C of HPC(D) Manipur Region, presided over the programme. Pu Lalringfel Hmar of HYA Pherzawl Joint Headquarters also addressed the gathering.
The speakers paid rich tributes to the martyrs, stating that their sacrifices for the welfare of the Hmar community should never be forgotten and urging the younger generation to uphold their ideals and continue working for the progress and unity of the community.
As part of the observance, students from JSS Parbung, PMS Junior High School, Parbung Government High School and NSCBAV presented traditional Hmar cultural dances. Various Hmar organisations, including HSA, HYA, HWA, Hmar Inpui, HKI, Parbung Village Authority and ITAC, also delivered messages during the programme.
The evening session featured musical performances by artistes Upa Lalbieklien, Lawmsangzuali Ralsun, Jenise Pudaite, Zaii Hauchhum and Siampuii Ralte.
Meanwhile, the final of the Pherzawl District Hmar Martyrs’ Trophy 2026 Football Tournament, which began on May 9, was also held as part of the observance. Before the final match, players observed a one-minute silence in honour of the martyrs after the singing of the PDFA anthem “Aw Kan Hmarram”.

In the final, Electric Department defeated Damdiei FC 3-2 to lift the Pherzawl District Hmar Martyrs’ Trophy 2026. The champions received the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while runners-up Damdiei FC received Rs 50,000.
Individual awards were also presented. Thangneilal of Electric Department was named Best Goalkeeper, Thanglianjohn of Damdiei FC won both Best Defender and Player of the Tournament awards, JB Faihriem of Damdiei FC was Top Scorer, and Peter Khumrolian of Electric Department was adjudged Best Midfielder.
