Guwahati, May 15: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota chaired a virtual meeting with Deputy Commissioners of several districts to review the status of land acquisition and compensation disbursement for major road infrastructure projects being implemented under Asom Mala and allied schemes.
The review meeting was held following directions from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and focused on pending land acquisition cases, compensation-related issues and other obstacles affecting project execution across the state.
According to officials, the projects under review span more than 300 kilometres and fall under schemes including ASRIP, ASCCIP, NIDA and SOPD. The districts covered in the review included Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur and Chirang.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary reviewed compensation amounts released for several major road corridors, including ₹55 crore for the Sivasagar–Chumoni road project, ₹118 crore for the Moran–Disangkinar Bongali road project in Dibrugarh and ₹101.44 crore for the Borkhola–Kalain road project in Cachar.
Other major allocations included ₹86.78 crore for the Hailakandi–Dwarbond road project, ₹89 crore for the Bhanga–Sessabari road project in Sribhumi and ₹53.46 crore for the Chapaguri–Amteka road project in Tamulpur.

The Chief Secretary stressed the need to expedite compensation disbursement, resolve land-related encumbrances and ensure availability of hindrance-free land for timely completion of the projects. Officials noted that several stretches have witnessed delays due to pending land acquisition and compensation issues.
Deputy Commissioners informed the meeting about district-wise progress and challenges requiring immediate intervention. Directions were issued to all concerned officials to take proactive steps for early resolution of pending matters and strengthen coordination between district administrations and executing agencies to avoid further delays in project implementation.
The state government said the projects are crucial for improving road connectivity and infrastructure development across Assam.
