Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii congratulated the graduating students for successfully completing their medical education despite beginning their studies during the Covid-19 pandemic. She expressed hope that the new graduates would help reduce the shortage of doctors in Mizoram and contribute towards improving healthcare services in the state.
The Minister noted that the Government of Mizoram had extended support for their education by appointing qualified faculty members and covering their study expenses. She urged the graduates to honour the bond agreement signed before the commencement of their studies, under which they are required to serve under the Government of Mizoram for two years after graduation.
She also encouraged students planning to pursue postgraduate studies to take up specialised subjects urgently needed in Mizoram, including Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
A major highlight of the programme was the inauguration of Mizoram’s first Interventional CT Scan facility at ZMC&H. The AI-enabled u-CT 780 Model 128-Slice CT Scanner System was installed under the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) at a cost of Rs. 8.18 crore with support from the World Bank.
Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, Project Director of MHSSP, said the advanced CT Scan machine provides clearer imaging with lower radiation exposure and would particularly benefit cardiac patients, children and cancer patients.
