Wudong Mentoh Rhododendron Festival Inaugurated in Arunachal’s Tawang District

Tawang, April 11: The first-ever Wudong Mentoh Rhododendron Festival 2026 was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at Khrimu Village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, marking a significant initiative to celebrate the region’s unique biodiversity, rich cultural heritage, and strong community spirit.

The grand inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, state ministers Nyato Dukam and Kento Jini, along with local legislators Namgey Tsering and Tsering Lhamu. Senior government officials, community leaders, tourists, and residents of Khrimu Village also participated in the event, making it a vibrant gathering of culture and nature enthusiasts.

The festival has been organized to showcase the stunning rhododendron blooms that cover the hills of Tawang during spring, highlighting the district’s rich floral diversity and ecological significance. Officials said the initiative is aimed at promoting eco-tourism while encouraging the conservation of the region’s unique natural resources.

Scheduled from April 11 to 12, the two-day festival features a wide range of activities, including cultural programmes, traditional dances, folk performances, exhibitions of local handicrafts and products, and special cultural night music shows. The event provides a platform for local communities to showcase their traditions, customs, and artistic talents while attracting visitors from different parts of the country.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Pema Khandu described the festival as a unique celebration where “nature and culture bloom together.” He said the event reflects the beauty of spring in Tawang and the enduring spirit of its people. Khandu emphasized the importance of preserving both the region’s biodiversity and cultural heritage while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities through tourism.

Organizers and officials expressed optimism that the Wudong Mentoh Rhododendron Festival will become a major annual event in Arunachal Pradesh’s tourism calendar. They believe the festival will help attract more visitors to Tawang, boost the local economy, and strengthen awareness about environmental conservation and cultural preservation.

The colourful inauguration marked the beginning of what many hope will become a flagship celebration of Tawang’s natural beauty and cultural identity.
