The Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse, Cécile Mathou, members of the French Consulate team from Kolkata, Political and Cooperation Officer Yazid Soussi, and other delegates. The delegation explored some of North Sikkim's most significant heritage sites, gaining first-hand insight into the region's unique history, culture, and spiritual traditions.

Upon their arrival in Kabi Subdivision, the delegation received a warm welcome at Labrang Monastery from Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Monika Rai, along with local officials. During the visit, the Ambassador interacted with government representatives and discussed opportunities for strengthening cultural cooperation and fostering closer ties between France and Sikkim.

The delegation later toured the historic Tumlong Palace Ruins, the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim. The site, which holds immense historical significance, offered visitors an opportunity to learn about the state's royal heritage and its important place in Sikkim's history.

The French delegation also visited the renowned Phodong Monastery and Phensang Monastery, two of the state's most revered Buddhist monasteries. The visitors explored the monasteries' centuries-old architecture, religious traditions, and vibrant cultural heritage while interacting with monks and learning about the region's spiritual legacy.

Another highlight of the visit was Kabi Lungchok, the historic site of the Blood Brotherhood Treaty between the Lepcha Chief Thekong Tek and the Bhutia Chief Khey Bumsa. The landmark symbolises unity, peace, and mutual respect between communities and remains one of Sikkim's most significant historical sites.

Officials said the Ambassador's visit reflects the growing partnership between India and France and highlights the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. The visit is also expected to promote Sikkim as a destination for heritage and cultural tourism while creating opportunities for future collaboration in tourism, education, and cultural exchange.

The visit concluded with optimism that such interactions would deepen mutual understanding between the people of India and France and further reinforce the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
