In a condemnation statement issued on April 8, the Three Chingjaroi Villages Shanao Long - representing Chingjaroi Khullen, Chingjaroi Ngachaphung and Chingjaroi C.V. - stated that the incident occurred on April 7 at Litan.

According to the statement, the victim, identified as Mrs. R. Thingreila, wife of R. Verimoon, sustained multiple injuries during the alleged attack and is currently undergoing treatment at Ukhrul. The organisation said she received several stitches and may have suffered internal injuries.

The women’s body termed the incident a “brutal attack” and expressed strong resentment, stating that such actions show grave disrespect to Tangkhul Naga women. It reminded security personnel to respect local traditions and community values while performing their duties.

The statement also highlighted that women in Tangkhul society are regarded as peacekeepers and traditionally carry a “Charmei” (torch) during situations that require ensuring peace. The organisation alleged that the security personnel not only confiscated the torches but also destroyed them and allegedly assaulted the women.
