Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar Lays Foundation Stone for Tourism Project at Vangchhia

Champhai, April 8: Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Monday laid the foundation stone for the Development of Basic Amenities project at Lal Mual in Vangchhia village under the PRASHAD Scheme.

Speaking at the event, the minister stressed that Vangchhia village should preserve its originality and cultural identity without unnecessary alterations. He said tourists are often interested in experiencing the authentic lifestyle and traditions of local communities, and therefore the village should welcome visitors while maintaining its natural and cultural character.

Hmar noted that Vangchhia has strong potential to attract tourists and emphasized the need to develop accommodation facilities for visitors. He assured that the Tourism Department would make all possible efforts to promote culture-based tourism in the area.

Highlighting the tourism potential of Champhai District, the minister said the government is working to attract more tourists and plans to organise major events in the district to encourage visitors to explore nearby hills and heritage sites. The new development project will help create basic infrastructure for tourists, including facilities for those wishing to stay overnight. He added that the people of Vangchhia are expected to benefit the most from the initiative.

Hmar also stated that tourists visiting Mizoram prefer to see natural and authentic sites rather than artificially created attractions. He said Vangchhia already possesses significant cultural and historical heritage, and the Tourism Department will work to promote and preserve these assets.

The Development of Basic Amenities project, titled Vangchhia Cultural & Heritage Centre, will be implemented at a cost of ₹5.47 crore under the PRASHAD scheme. Following the foundation-laying ceremony, the minister also visited the historic Kawtchhuah Ropui.

Meanwhile, Lalmuanpuia Punte, Adviser to the Chief Minister, also addressed the gathering. He said the state government is actively promoting tourism and that the number of visitors to Mizoram has been steadily increasing. He also appreciated the Tourism Minister’s efforts in promoting culture-based tourism in the state.
