Gangtok, April 23: Polling teams were deployed on Wednesday for the upcoming Gangtok Municipal Elections 2026, with voting scheduled to take place on April 24 at Paljor Namgyal Girls’ School.
A total of three polling teams, each comprising a Presiding Officer and three Polling Officers, were dispatched from the District Administrative Centre by Municipal Returning Officer-cum-District Collector Tushar Nikhare. The polling station has been set up for the 10-DPH Ward, which is the only ward going to polls under the Gangtok Municipal Corporation.
Before the teams were sent out, the strong room was opened in the presence of key officials, including Election Observer-cum-Secretary of the Culture Department Basant Kr Lama, Assistant Municipal Returning Officers Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, Tshering Norgyal Theengh and Mahendra Chettri, along with other officials, police personnel and representatives of the contesting candidates.

Nikhare briefed the polling teams and instructed polling personnel and candidate representatives to verify the commissioned electronic voting machines against their designated serial numbers. Presiding Officers also checked all materials as per the official checklist.
Police personnel were briefed on logistical arrangements, while a reserve polling team has been kept on standby to address any contingencies. Officials from Electronics Corporation of India Ltd were also present to assist with election preparations.
Authorities expressed confidence that the polling process would be conducted smoothly and efficiently.
