Dimapur, April 27, 2026: The Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) has announced that the newly established Indoor Cricket Academy in Dimapur will be virtually inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 28, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the development of cricket infrastructure in Nagaland and the wider Northeast region.

PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Indoor Cricket Academy in Dimapur

According to officials of the Nagaland Cricket Association, the inauguration will take place through a virtual programme that will connect multiple locations across the Northeast. The event forms part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and creating better training opportunities for young athletes in the region.

The Indoor Cricket Academy is expected to play a crucial role in advancing cricket development in Nagaland by providing modern training facilities that can be used throughout the year. Unlike outdoor facilities, the indoor academy will allow players to continue training regardless of weather conditions, a factor that often affects cricket activities during the monsoon season and other periods of adverse weather.

Officials stated that the facility has been designed to support the development of aspiring cricketers at various levels. It will serve as a venue for coaching programmes, specialized training camps, talent identification initiatives, and advanced skill development sessions for both junior and senior players. The academy is also expected to provide a professional environment where athletes can refine their techniques and prepare for competitive tournaments.

The virtual inauguration is reportedly part of a larger programme during which the Prime Minister will inaugurate several indoor cricket facilities across different northeastern states. The initiative reflects growing efforts to promote sports and youth development in a region that has produced talented athletes across multiple disciplines but has often faced challenges related to infrastructure and access to professional training facilities.

Sports administrators in Nagaland have welcomed the development, describing it as an important step toward strengthening the state's cricket ecosystem. They believe the academy will complement existing facilities and help create a more structured pathway for player development.

Nagaland already possesses a major cricket venue in the form of the Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium located at Sovima in Chümoukedima district. The stadium serves as the state's primary cricket ground and training centre and has hosted domestic cricket matches and various development programmes. The addition of a dedicated indoor academy is expected to further enhance the state's sporting infrastructure and provide players with access to year-round training opportunities.

Officials also expressed optimism that the facility will help nurture emerging talent from Nagaland and neighboring areas, enabling more players to compete at higher levels of the sport. By improving training conditions and expanding access to professional coaching, the academy is expected to contribute to the long-term growth of cricket in the state.

With the launch of the Indoor Cricket Academy, stakeholders hope to create new opportunities for aspiring cricketers and strengthen the foundation for the future growth of the sport in the region.
