Lawngtlai, April 25, 2026: Two persons were killed after a TATA Sumo Maxicab met with an accident between Tuichawngtlang and Vathuampui in Mizoram's Lawngtlai district on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred about 1.5 km from Vathuampui, when the vehicle reportedly lost control and overturned near the Betsuri stream while heading towards Vaseikai from Hmawngbuchhuah at around 10 am.
According to information received from the Vathuampui Branch of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), a total of 11 passengers - including five men and six women - were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Two persons died on the spot. They were identified as the driver, Pu Nghapiang of Hmawngbuchhuah, and Pu Naimaru Varang from Myanmar, who was one of the passengers.

Following news of the accident, local volunteers rushed to the spot to assist the victims. Members of the Vathuampui Branch YMA led the rescue efforts, helping transport the injured and the deceased to Vathuampui.
Later in the afternoon, YMA volunteers arranged vehicles to transport the bodies from Vathuampui back to their respective villages.
Local residents and volunteers extended assistance throughout the rescue and relief operation.
