New Delhi, April 24: Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar held a meeting with officials of NITI Aayog at Mizoram House in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on Friday to discuss preparations for the upcoming Mizoram Tourism Conclave scheduled for October this year.

The meeting focused on organising a pre-conclave meeting in New Delhi to ensure the conclave’s success and maximise benefits for Mizoram’s tourism sector. The NITI Aayog delegation was led by Swapnalee Bhattacharya.
During the discussion, Hmar noted a significant rise in tourist arrivals to Mizoram following the introduction of train connectivity to Sairang. He stated that the state has been receiving thousands of visitors every month, and improved connectivity is expected to further boost tourism.
The minister also highlighted the state government’s efforts to promote Mizoram as a potential “Winter Capital of India” and said steps are being taken to create more tourist attractions and activities to encourage visitors to stay longer in the state.
Officials decided that the pre-conclave meeting would likely be held in May 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, where key stakeholders from India’s tourism industry will participate in brainstorming sessions on strategies for the development of tourism in Mizoram.

The discussions will help identify actionable ideas that will be implemented during the main Mizoram Tourism Conclave scheduled for October. The government also plans to invite prominent tourism stakeholders and experts to ensure the event’s success.
The proposal for organising the conclave had earlier been discussed during a meeting between NITI Aayog member V. K. Paul and Minister Hmar at NITI Bhawan in November last year.
The meeting was attended by Additional Resident Commissioner Alexander V. Chongthu, Minister’s PS H. Lalramenga, and officials from NITI Aayog including Priscilla C. Ngaihte and Aashna Sharma.
