Aizawl, April 23: A meeting of the State Level Anti-Drugs Committee under the School Education Department was held on Thursday at the office chamber of School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana to discuss measures to protect school students from drug abuse.

The meeting reviewed existing studies on the impact of drugs on school children and deliberated on strategies to prevent substance abuse among students.
As part of the initiative, a Drafting Committee was formed to prepare a School Drug Policy aimed at strengthening preventive measures within educational institutions.
Participants also discussed strict action against teachers found involved in drug abuse and the need to ensure that the sale or consumption of drugs and alcohol is not allowed in and around school premises.
The meeting further explored ways to address the negative impact of drug addiction on society through education and awareness while encouraging cooperation among the government, community organisations, churches and families.

Officials also discussed strengthening coordination with departments such as Health & Family Welfare, Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, and Excise & Narcotics to combat drug abuse effectively.
The meeting was attended by officials from the School Education Department, the Mizoram Social Defence and Rehabilitation Board, Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Department, Excise & Narcotics Department, and representatives of the Mizoram Teachers Federation.
