Aizawl, April 23: Mizoram School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana has welcomed the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026 conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE), describing the overall outcome as encouraging and indicative of continued improvement in the state’s education sector.

Addressing the media at his office chamber following the declaration of the results, the minister noted that 18,257 students appeared for the examination this year, of whom 80.31 percent successfully passed. He pointed out that the overall pass percentage represents an improvement over the previous year, reflecting the hard work of students, teachers, parents, and education authorities.
Dr. Vanlalthlana particularly highlighted the performance of government schools, describing it as one of the most encouraging aspects of this year’s results. According to the minister, government schools recorded a pass percentage of 72.07 percent in 2026, up from 68.01 percent in the previous year. He said the improvement demonstrates the positive impact of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational standards and learning outcomes in government-run institutions.
The minister further noted that no government school in Mizoram recorded a zero-pass result this year, a development he described as a significant achievement. In addition, 21 government schools achieved a 100 percent pass rate, underscoring the progress being made across the state’s public education system.
According to Dr. Vanlalthlana, the improved performance of government schools is a reflection of increasing confidence among students and parents in the quality of education provided by these institutions. He said the results indicate that government schools are becoming more reliable and competitive, offering students opportunities to achieve academic success.
The minister also explained a notable change in the presentation of examination results this year. Unlike previous years, the MBSE has not publicly released lists of top ten rank holders or division-wise rankings. Instead, students are able to access their individual marks and percentages through the board’s official online platform. He noted that this approach is already followed by several education boards across the country and is intended to focus attention on individual academic performance rather than public rankings.
Dr. Vanlalthlana congratulated all students who successfully cleared the examination and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in their future academic pursuits. He said the HSLC examination marks an important milestone in a student’s educational journey and opens the door to higher studies and career opportunities.
At the same time, the minister offered words of encouragement to students who were unable to pass the examination. He urged them not to lose heart and instead view the setback as an opportunity to learn, improve, and prepare for future success. Determination, perseverance, and hard work, he said, can help overcome temporary disappointments.

The minister also expressed gratitude to the officials and staff of the Mizoram Board of School Education, teachers, school administrators, parents, and other stakeholders who contributed to the smooth conduct of the examination and the timely declaration of results.
Emphasizing the importance of collective effort, Dr. Vanlalthlana called for continued cooperation among educators, students, parents, and policymakers to further strengthen the education sector in Mizoram. He said the state must continue investing in quality education, teacher development, and student support systems to ensure sustained improvement in academic performance.
The encouraging HSLC 2026 results, he added, demonstrate the positive direction in which Mizoram’s education system is moving and provide a strong foundation for future progress in the sector.
