‘Kham leh Suar’ Wins Mizo Academy of Letters Book of the Year 2025 Award

Aizawl, April 23: The Mizo Academy of Letters (Mizo Thu leh Hla Inpui) celebrated its foundation day at the I&PR Auditorium in Aizawl on Wednesday, with Carol VLMS Dawngkimi, Director of Art & Culture, Government of Mizoram, attending as the chief guest.

During the programme, the Book of the Year 2025 award was presented to Lalrammawia Ngente for his book Kham leh Suar. The award included a citation and a cash prize of ₹10,000. The chief guest also released books authored by Darchuailova Renthlei, H. Laldinmawia, and Lalrinngheta.

Congratulating the award recipient, Dawngkimi described the recognition as a significant honour given the presence of many talented writers. She praised the role of the Mizo Academy of Letters in promoting literature and highlighted its collaboration with the Art & Culture Department. She also stressed the importance of literature in shaping society and preserving cultural identity.

The event was chaired by MAL President RL Thanmawia, while noted writer Zoramdinthara presented an overview of the organisation’s activities. He stated that 223 books in the Mizo language were published in 2025, and explained that the academy selects the best book of the year through a detailed evaluation process.

Reports from the Joint Headquarters and branch units of the academy were also presented during the event.

The Book of the Year citation noted that Kham leh Suar vividly portrays the struggles and moral dilemmas of human life, while highlighting themes of redemption, faith, and hope through the transformative power of God’s love.

Since the award was first introduced in 1989, the Mizo Academy of Letters has conferred the honour 37 times.

The programme concluded with a literary session led by MAL Vice President Rualkhuma Colney, where a paper titled “Tunlai Thiamnain Mizo Thu leh Hlaa Hnuhma a neih Dan” by Lalthlamuana Ralte was presented and discussed.
