Speaking to the media, Rymbui stated that authorities across the state have been officially alerted and are ready to respond to any emergency. He added that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire and emergency services, and other agencies have been placed on high alert.

The minister emphasised that disaster management involves more than monitoring rainfall or natural calamities. According to him, disasters can also be man-made, including accidents and environmental issues such as deforestation or unstable hill slopes.

Rymbui said teams from district administrations, including Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers, have been directed to remain prepared to respond swiftly to any situation. He also highlighted the cooperation of the public and the support of agencies such as Home Guards, police, and fire services in managing emergencies.

Meanwhile, commenting on the construction of the Shillong–Dawki road, the minister said he was satisfied with the proactive measures taken by the government to reduce potential risks. He noted that the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) had issued restrictions and prohibitory measures, while implementing agencies had taken steps such as dismantling unstable hillocks in areas like Mawlyngkhar to prevent possible hazards.

However, Rymbui expressed sadness over the loss of human lives in recent incidents related to the project, saying such tragedies should not occur during infrastructure development. He stressed the need for stronger coordination between district administrations and implementing agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Rymbui said disaster management in Meghalaya follows a decentralised approach, enabling local authorities to respond quickly to emergencies and provide immediate help to affected communities.
