Speaking to reporters, Dhar acknowledged that the base rates quoted earlier by the government were likely too high, discouraging potential management agencies and businesses from participating in the tender process.

To address the issue and ensure the facility becomes operational, the government now plans to issue a fresh tender with significantly reduced base rates.

The Polo Commercial Complex, considered Shillong’s first modern government-owned shopping mall, was constructed under the Shillong Smart City Mission at an estimated cost of ₹100.33 crore.

The project was completed in December 2024 and was formally inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in July 2025.

Officials said the revised tender is expected to attract interested agencies and help make the shopping complex operational at the earliest.
