Itanagar, April 21: A delegation from the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly visited the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) on Monday for an inter-state interaction aimed at strengthening legislative oversight and improving the functioning of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

The 13-member delegation was led by Charles Marngar, Chairperson of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s COPU. During the visit, the delegation held discussions with their counterparts from Arunachal Pradesh, including APLA COPU Chairman Jikke Tako and committee member Oken Tayeng.
Welcoming the visiting delegation, Jikke Tako emphasized the importance of such interactions in promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of public sector undertakings. He noted that exchanges between legislative committees provide valuable opportunities to learn from each other’s experiences and adopt best practices that can strengthen institutional oversight.
The meeting featured detailed discussions on the roles and responsibilities of COPUs in ensuring effective monitoring of government-owned enterprises and public institutions. Members of both committees shared their experiences in reviewing the performance of PSUs, examining audit reports, and addressing issues related to governance, financial management, and public accountability.
As part of the programme, presentations were made on the internal functional rules and operational procedures followed by the respective committees. The interaction also provided a platform for deliberations on ways to enhance legislative scrutiny, improve committee effectiveness, and strengthen mechanisms for ensuring responsible management of public resources.
Both sides acknowledged the growing importance of cooperation among northeastern states in addressing common governance challenges and enhancing institutional capacity. They expressed confidence that such exchanges would contribute to improved oversight of public sector institutions and better service delivery for citizens.
The meeting concluded with both committees reaffirming their commitment to fostering greater inter-state collaboration and sharing knowledge to improve the governance and accountability of PSUs across the region.
The interaction was facilitated by Tadar Meena, Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, with support from Joint Secretary K. Jugli and Under Secretary K. Lowang, who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.
The visit is expected to further strengthen ties between the two legislative bodies and encourage continued cooperation on matters of public administration and governance in Northeast India.
