Aizawl, April 21: The Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC) celebrated its 50th Golden Jubilee on April 20, 2026, at R. Dengthuama Hall, Mualpui, marking five decades of promoting sports development in the state.

The event was attended by several prominent leaders and sports officials, including Sports & Youth Services Minister and MSSC President Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, former Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla, MLA Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua, and Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga, along with former MSSC presidents and representatives of affiliated state-level sports associations.
Addressing the gathering, MSSC President Lalnghinglova Hmar highlighted the contributions of past leaders in shaping the council over the past 50 years. He emphasized the need to work towards greater sporting achievements at the national and international levels, noting that Mizoram currently has only two Olympians. He also stressed the importance of preparing young athletes to represent India at the 2036 Olympic Games, for which eight priority sports disciplines have been identified.
The Mizoram State Sports Council was established on April 20, 1976 through an executive order and later strengthened by the Mizoram State Sports Council Act, 2002, which formalized its administrative structure. At present, 34 state-level sports associations are affiliated with MSSC, each of which organized state-level tournaments as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
As part of the commemorative events, a Golden Jubilee Torch Relay was earlier organized on April 22, 2025, covering various locations in Aizawl with participation from the affiliated sports associations.

During the celebration, former and current MSSC leaders were honoured, along with athletes who have brought laurels to Mizoram at the national level. MSSC Awards were also presented to recognize outstanding contributions to sports development in the state.
The programme included a welcome address by V. Lalsangliana, Commissioner & Secretary of Sports & Youth Services, a report presentation by MSSC Secretary Henry Lalrawnkima, and a vote of thanks by Dr. Lalhmuchhuaka, Vice-President of MSSC.
