Manipur Police Havildar Arrested for Alleged Links with KCP Militant Outfit

Imphal, April 13: Security forces arrested a Havildar attached to the Kakching Commando (CDO) along with another individual for allegedly working with a banned militant outfit in Manipur.

According to Manipur Police, the arrests were made on April 13 during an operation targeting members of Kangleipak Communist Party linked to the Ibungo Ngangom faction.

The arrested Havildar has been identified as Elangbam Surjit Singh, a resident of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai. Police said he was attached to the Kakching Commando unit (CDO) and was apprehended from Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai in Thoubal district.

During the arrest, security forces seized a service pistol along with 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition from his possession.

Another individual, Maibam Ronaldo, also a resident of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai, was arrested in connection with the same case.

In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police, with assistance from Assam Police, arrested Hodam Romen Singh alias Naobi (39) from Rupnagar under Lanka Police Station in Hojai district of Assam.

Police said the accused, a resident of Kamranga in Jiribam district, is an active cadre of the RPF/PLA involved in extortion activities and is a co-accused in a case registered at Jiribam Police Station.

Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the network and activities linked to the arrested individuals.
