In a joint statement issued by Dr Vihuto Asumi on behalf of the 15 tribal bodies, the hohos welcomed the consensus reached during a consultative meeting held on April 7 at the Capital Convention Centre. The meeting was convened by the Government of Nagaland through the National Highways and PWD (Roads and Bridges) departments.
The tribal leaders described the meeting as a significant step toward advancing the long-pending Foothills Road project and reaffirmed their support for upgrading the road into a two-lane National Highway.
Calling for urgent action, the hohos strongly urged the Government of Nagaland to expedite the necessary proposals and pursue the matter with the Government of India at the earliest so that the consensus reached can be translated into concrete action.
They also assured full cooperation in facilitating the project on the ground, including engaging with landowners to ensure smooth and mutually acceptable land acquisition required for the highway construction.
