The decision was conveyed through a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on April 24. According to the order, the directive will apply to all government offices as well as autonomous bodies, institutions, corporations, societies, boards, and public sector undertakings operating under the Government of Manipur.

The notification specifies that every Saturday will be treated as a regular working day, except when it falls on a notified general holiday. The arrangement will remain in effect until the government issues further instructions.

The order was issued with the approval of the competent authority and was signed by Thokchom Bedajit, Joint Secretary, General Administration Department, on behalf of the Governor of Manipur.

Officials said the move has been introduced as a temporary administrative measure to improve the pace of official work, facilitate the timely disposal of files, and ensure the efficient implementation of government programmes and public services. With government departments handling a wide range of developmental and administrative responsibilities, the additional working day is expected to help reduce pending work and strengthen coordination among various offices.

The decision comes as the state government continues to focus on improving governance and expediting developmental initiatives across Manipur. Officials believe that extending the working week will provide departments with additional time to process official matters, implement welfare schemes, and address public grievances more effectively.

Employees of all affected departments and organisations have been instructed to comply with the revised working schedule with immediate effect. Citizens visiting government offices have also been advised to take note of the change, as public services will now be available on Saturdays, except on officially declared holidays.

The state government reiterated that the measure is temporary and has been introduced in the interest of ensuring uninterrupted administrative functioning and improving service delivery to the people. Authorities added that the decision will be reviewed periodically, and any changes to the working schedule will be communicated through official notifications.
