Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Reviews Airport Terminal, Road Upgradation Works

Imphal, April 13: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing upgradation works at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport and the road improvement project at Paona Bazaar, reviewing the progress of two key infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity and improving public amenities in the state capital.

At the airport, the Chief Minister was accompanied by the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner (Home), Director of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Director of Transport, and other senior officials. The team reviewed the progress of the new terminal upgradation project and inspected the Air Cargo Terminal, which is expected to strengthen cargo handling facilities and improve logistical support for the state.

During the inspection, Khemchand Singh expressed satisfaction over the substantial progress achieved in the construction of the new terminal. He said the upgraded airport infrastructure would significantly improve passenger convenience, enhance operational efficiency, and support the growing demand for air connectivity in Manipur. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the scheduled timeline.

However, the Chief Minister also pointed out deficiencies in workmanship at certain locations within the project site. He directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to immediately rectify the shortcomings and ensure that all works strictly adhere to prescribed engineering and quality standards.

Later, the Chief Minister visited Paona Bazaar to inspect the ongoing road upgradation works, which form part of the government's efforts to modernise urban infrastructure in Imphal. He observed that the project had made encouraging progress towards timely completion and appreciated the efforts of the executing agencies.

While expressing satisfaction over the pace of work, Khemchand Singh instructed officials to address gaps in execution without delay to ensure the road's durability, safety, and long-term performance. He emphasised that quality should never be compromised in public infrastructure projects.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to infrastructure-led development, the Chief Minister stated that modern roads, improved transport facilities, and better public infrastructure are essential for economic growth, urban development, and improving the quality of life of citizens. He said the State Government would continue to closely monitor major projects to ensure their timely completion and deliver efficient, high-quality public facilities for the people of Manipur.
