Manipur: Arms, Drugs Recovered in Chandel and Tengnoupal; Arms Smuggler Arrested in Bishnupur

Imphal, April 30, 2026: Security forces in Manipur recovered a large cache of arms and explosives from Khangtung village under Molcham Police Station in Chandel district during an operation conducted on April 29, according to the Manipur Police.

The recovered items included one 7.62 K-09 assault rifle with magazine, four single bore rifles, one Mauser-style sporting rifle, one shotgun, one sub-machine gun (SMG) with magazine, one pistol with magazine, four pompis, three grenades with three detonators, five Baofeng radio sets, 28 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, and five 12-gauge cartridges.

In a separate operation the same day, security forces seized suspected narcotics from the Tengnoupal IVR area under Tengnoupal Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The recovered items included two soap cases of brown sugar weighing 0.078 grams, 10 plastic packets of WY tablets weighing about 12 kg, and one four-wheeler vehicle.

Meanwhile, on April 28, security forces arrested an alleged arms smuggler and active cadre of the NRFM, identified as Khwairakpam Doren Singh (42) of Upokpi Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district. The arrest was made from his locality under Bishnupur Police Station. A mobile phone with SIM card was seized from his possession.

Police said further investigation is underway in connection with the seizures and arrest.
