In a press statement issued by the committee, the organisation said credible local inputs had indicated the presence of suspected Tangkhul militant elements along the Kampa Mol (Mount Compass) ridges, an area described as shared cultivated land belonging to Kuki villages including Yaolen Chepu, Mongkot Chepu, Lamlai Chingphei and Mulam.

According to the statement, Kuki village volunteers carried out a preventive patrol in the jungle areas within their village land to ensure the safety of residents following repeated threats and incursions.

The committee claimed that during the patrol, volunteers encountered suspected militants who had allegedly entered the forested areas of Kuki village land, triggering an exchange of fire at around 11:10 am on Tuesday.

The organisation also raised concerns over what it described as repeated attempts to intimidate Kuki villages, stating that such incidents contradict public narratives advocating peace while aggressive actions continue on the ground.

The committee reiterated that while the Kuki community remains committed to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, it would continue to defend its land, rights and people against any form of aggression.

The statement was issued by the Department of Information and Media of the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul.
