The inauguration programme was attended by district officials, community leaders, representatives of civil society organisations, members of the Shamator Town Public Forum, and local residents. The event highlighted the growing infrastructure development taking place in the district since its creation and reflected the collective efforts of the government and local communities to improve public amenities and connectivity.

Addressing the gathering, Yimchunger stated that the blacktopping and improvement of the town road had been undertaken with the objective of enhancing connectivity, improving transportation, and providing greater convenience to residents. He emphasized that better road infrastructure is essential for economic growth, access to services, and the overall development of the district.

The Advisor expressed gratitude to the Shamator Town Public Forum, the district administration, local citizens, contractors, and well-wishers whose support and cooperation contributed to the successful completion of the project. He noted that development initiatives can only succeed when communities and government institutions work together toward a common goal.

Speaking about the newly inaugurated Toshi Wungtung Memorial Clock Tower, Yimchunger said the project had originally been envisioned and initiated by the late Toshi Wungtung, whom he described as a visionary leader dedicated to the welfare and advancement of Shamator. Naming the clock tower after him, he said, was a fitting tribute to his contributions and would serve as a lasting reminder of his vision and commitment to public service.

According to Yimchunger, the memorial is intended not only to honour the late leader but also to inspire future generations to work for the progress and development of their communities. He encouraged young people to draw inspiration from leaders who have contributed selflessly to society.

The Advisor also used the occasion to outline several future infrastructure plans for Shamator town. He informed the gathering that additional road development works are being planned in key areas, including the stretch from the Memorial Clock Tower to the Public Ground, the road connecting Shotang Traffic Point to the Veterinary Office, and the route from Shotang Traffic Point to St. Xavier Road through the PHED ward road.

These proposed projects, he said, would further improve urban connectivity and contribute to the district’s long-term development objectives.

During the programme, Yansomong, Vice President of the Yimchunger Tribal Council, expressed appreciation for the pace of development witnessed in Shamator since it attained district status. He noted that infrastructure improvements and public projects have gradually transformed the district and improved the quality of life for residents.

Similarly, Neoji, Secretary of the Shamator Town Public Forum, acknowledged the efforts of Yimchunger in bringing developmental projects to the district. While expressing appreciation for the construction of the memorial clock tower, he suggested that a fully functional clock be installed so that the structure could serve both as a landmark and a practical public utility.

Also speaking at the event, Podi Kapo, SDO (Civil), Shamator, praised the rapid pace of development taking place in the district. He attributed the progress to effective leadership and the collective support of the people, stating that the district has witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure and public facilities in recent years.

The inauguration of the road improvement project and the memorial clock tower was widely welcomed by residents, who viewed the developments as important additions to the district’s growing infrastructure network. Community members expressed optimism that the ongoing and proposed projects would contribute to greater connectivity, economic opportunities, and overall progress for Shamator.

The programme concluded with expressions of gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the projects and a renewed commitment to pursuing further development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people across the district.
