Guwahati, April 22: Assam Police on Tuesday felicitated two of its personnel for their outstanding performances at the 17th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships, held in New Delhi from April 5 to 11. Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Hardi Singh honoured the athletes for their exceptional achievements, describing them as a source of pride for the police force, the state, and the nation.

Among those felicitated was Nayanmoni Saikia, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police, who won the gold medal in the women's singles event. Saikia is one of India's most accomplished lawn bowlers and was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2022 for her contribution to the sport. She rose to international prominence after helping India win a historic gold medal in the women's fours event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Hailing from Golaghat district, Saikia has represented India in several Commonwealth Games and international championships, earning multiple medals and establishing herself as one of the country's finest lawn bowls players.
The Assam Police also felicitated Havildar Putul Sonowal, who delivered an impressive performance by winning the gold medal in the men's singles event and a bronze medal in the men's triples competition. His remarkable performance played a significant role in India's successful campaign at the continental championship. Sonowal has consistently represented India in international lawn bowls tournaments and has previously secured medals at prestigious competitions, including the World Ranking Line City Cup in Singapore.'
