Arunachal Artisan Oter Tayeng Wins First Prize at Bharat Tribes Festival

Itanagar, April 7: Oter Tayeng has won first prize at the Bharat Tribes Festival, earning praise for promoting Mebo’s traditional bottled rice wine, which carries a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

Congratulating Tayeng on the achievement, Pema Khandu lauded the effort to preserve and promote indigenous culture and craftsmanship.

In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister said Tayeng’s work in promoting the traditional rice wine from Mebo reflects dedication to safeguarding cultural heritage while giving recognition to local artisans.

Khandu noted that the achievement highlights the importance of promoting traditional products with GI recognition, which helps protect indigenous knowledge and supports local livelihoods.

He added that such initiatives not only preserve age-old traditions but also bring national attention to the skills and creativity of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous communities.
