Champhai, April 7: Mizoram Tourism and Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Tuesday inaugurated three major development projects in Champhai district, aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting sports development in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Thangtea Hall and attended by government officials, community leaders, tourism stakeholders, sports representatives, and local residents. During the programme, the minister formally inaugurated the Heritage & Cultural Center at Champhai Vengsang, the Eco Resort Experience at Keilungliah, and the Artificial Turf Football Ground at New Champhai.
Addressing the gathering, Lalnghinglova Hmar described the projects as important investments that would contribute significantly to the district’s economic growth and social development. He said the initiatives reflect the government's commitment to developing sustainable tourism and modern sports infrastructure while creating opportunities for local communities.
The minister emphasized that although development projects are funded and implemented by the government, the people remain the primary stakeholders and beneficiaries. He urged residents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance and long-term sustainability.
Highlighting the importance of the newly inaugurated Heritage & Cultural Center, Lalnghinglova Hmar said the facility would serve as a venue for cultural programmes, conferences, meetings, exhibitions, and community events. He noted that preserving and promoting Mizo culture and traditions remains an essential aspect of tourism development in the state.
Regarding the Eco Resort Experience at Keilungliah, the minister said the project is expected to enhance Champhai’s appeal as a tourism destination. The facility includes cottages, recreational spaces, and other visitor amenities designed to provide tourists with a comfortable and immersive experience amid the district’s scenic natural surroundings. He expressed confidence that the resort would attract more visitors and contribute to local economic activity through tourism-related employment and business opportunities.
Lalnghinglova Hmar also highlighted the significance of the new Artificial Turf Football Ground at New Champhai, describing it as a major boost for sports development in the district. The facility is expected to provide athletes and football enthusiasts with a modern playing surface and create opportunities for hosting quality football tournaments and competitions.
The minister called upon the Champhai District Football Association and local residents to ensure proper care and utilization of the ground so that it can serve future generations of athletes. He added that investments in sports infrastructure are vital for nurturing talent and encouraging healthy lifestyles among young people.
During his address, Lalnghinglova Hmar announced that a District Tourism Office would soon be established in Champhai to strengthen tourism administration and improve coordination of tourism-related activities. He also revealed plans to upgrade the Champhai Tourist Lodge, a move expected to further improve accommodation facilities and support the growing tourism sector in the district.
The programme was chaired by R. Lalrodingi, while Executive Engineer Esther Lalduhsaki presented technical reports on the tourism projects. A separate technical report on the artificial turf football ground was presented by Henry C. Lalrawnkima. Champhai Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aaquib also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the projects for the district’s development.
Officials informed that the tourism-related projects were implemented under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme of the Tourism Department, while the artificial turf football ground was developed under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Karyakram through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The inauguration of the three projects marks another step in the state government's efforts to strengthen tourism, preserve cultural heritage, and develop modern sports infrastructure, with the broader goal of creating sustainable economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for the people of Champhai district.
