Tawang, February 15: The Tawang Tides International Kayaking Championship 2026 concluded on a high note with a vibrant closing ceremony and prize distribution held at Bongleng-Kharung-Lungla along the Tawang Chu River.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu described the event as a celebration of energy, sportsmanship, and adventure, highlighting the growing potential of the state as a hub for water sports and eco-tourism.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the participation of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who took to the waters of the Tawang Chu River, becoming the first Union Minister to experience kayaking at the venue. His gesture was widely appreciated as a strong show of support for adventure sports and athletes in the region.

Rijiju, sharing his excitement, called Tawang a “great destination for adventure sports and eco-tourism in India,” underscoring the immense natural potential of Arunachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Khandu expressed confidence that with sustained efforts from the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA) and the Arunachal Kayaking & Canoeing Association, local athletes will continue to excel at national and international platforms.
The championship not only showcased thrilling competitive performances but also reinforced Arunachal Pradesh’s emergence as a premier destination for adventure tourism in India.
