Special Cataract Detection, Surgery Camp Held for Senior Citizens of Pherzawl

Churachandpur, February 18: The District Administration, Pherzawl, organised a Special Cataract Detection and Surgery Camp under the Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY) on February 18, 2026, at District Hospital, Churachandpur, benefiting senior citizens of Pherzawl district.

The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Pherzawl, Smt. Mannuamching, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Social Welfare Officer Shri Joel G. Haokip, and Dr. H. Ginthianmung, Nodal Officer of the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI).

During the camp, 37 elderly persons were identified for free cataract surgery. Of them, 30 consented to undergo surgical intervention. Beneficiaries received free surgery, medicines, intraocular lenses, and post-operative care.

Officials stated that the initiative underscores the Government of Manipur’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and the welfare of senior citizens, particularly in remote and underserved districts.
