Tawang, February 13: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday attended the consecration and inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Administrative Block of Sera Jey Jamyang Choekhorling Monastery in Tawang, reaffirming the state's commitment to preserving and strengthening its rich spiritual and cultural heritage.

The ceremony was held in the presence of several distinguished religious leaders, including Venerable Geshe Lobsang Norbu, Chief Administrator of Sera Jey Monastery in Karnataka, His Eminence Dolhe Rinpoche Tenzin Kunkhyen, Abbot of Sera Jey Jamyang Choekhorling Monastery, along with monks, devotees, government officials, and other dignitaries.
The newly inaugurated Administrative Block is expected to enhance the monastery’s functioning by improving administrative efficiency, residential facilities, and the overall learning environment for monks and students. The upgraded infrastructure will support the institution’s educational and spiritual activities while creating better facilities for those associated with the monastery.
A significant highlight of the event was the donation of a school bus by the State Bank of India (SBI), Tawang Branch, to the monastery. The vehicle is expected to benefit children associated with the institution by facilitating safer and more convenient transportation for educational and community-related activities.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu emphasized the vital role monasteries play in society. He said such institutions are not merely places of worship but living centres of culture, discipline, education, and compassion. He noted that monasteries have historically contributed to preserving traditions, promoting moral values, and nurturing social harmony within communities.

The Chief Minister stressed that it is a collective responsibility to support and strengthen these institutions so they can continue serving future generations. He also appreciated the efforts of the monastery authorities and community members in maintaining and developing the institution.
Earlier in the day, Khandu visited the historic Tawang Monastery, where he received blessings from its Abbot, Venerable Phara Damey Tulku Rinpoche. Expressing gratitude for the spiritual guidance, the Chief Minister said the prayers and teachings offered by revered Buddhist leaders continue to inspire peace, harmony, and compassion.
He remarked that such spiritual leadership plays an important role in fostering understanding, unity, and well-being in society, while helping preserve the cultural and spiritual identity of Arunachal Pradesh.
