Pakyong, Feb 5: Healthcare services in Pakyong district received a significant boost on Wednesday with the addition of a new Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance to the Pakyong Primary Health Centre (PHC). The ambulance was provided under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), with the aim of strengthening emergency medical response and improving healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and remote areas.
The ambulance was formally handed over by Ashok Kumar Saha, Executive Director of NHIDCL, to Rohan Agawane, District Collector of Pakyong, during a ceremony held at the District Administrative Centre (DAC). Following the handover, the District Collector officially transferred the vehicle to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Madanmani Dhakal for deployment at Pakyong PHC.
The new ambulance is expected to play a crucial role in providing timely emergency medical assistance, facilitating the safe transportation of patients, and improving access to healthcare services for residents across the district, especially those living in geographically challenging and remote locations.
The initiative forms part of NHIDCL's CSR programme for the financial year 2025–26, under which the corporation has prioritised sustainable development in and around its project areas across the North-Eastern region. Apart from strengthening healthcare infrastructure through the provision of ambulances, NHIDCL's CSR activities also focus on improving sanitation facilities, promoting child nutrition, and enhancing livelihood opportunities through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) skill development programme.
