In the statement dated February 11, 2026, the NSCN/GPRN claimed that the violence began after an altercation involving individuals from the Kuki community and a Tangkhul person, which it alleged was later used as a pretext to target Tangkhul houses. The group accused Kuki militants of acting in collusion with Indian security forces and described the incident as a “premeditated arson” against the Tangkhul Naga community.

The statement further alleged that security personnel were seen assisting militants during the burning of houses and termed the incident a serious breach of law and human rights. It also criticized certain Kuki organizations for what it described as attempts to shift blame onto Tangkhuls and the NSCN.

Referring to the episode as a symbol of aggression against the Naga people, the NSCN/GPRN asserted that it would continue to defend what it described as the political rights and land of the Naga nation.

There has been no official response yet from Indian security agencies or Kuki organizations regarding the allegations made in the statement.
