Speaking at a welcome programme organised by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) at its office in Chümoukedima, Rio said that once the Act is passed, an interim body will be constituted for one year. Elections will be held thereafter to formalise the arrangement.

The Chief Minister revealed that during meetings held on February 4 with the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the proposal for the Frontier Nagaland Territory was reviewed in detail. He said the proposal was examined point by point, necessary corrections were incorporated, and it was aligned with the state Cabinet’s decision.

Rio further informed that the Union Finance Ministry had indicated that financial provisions for the autonomous arrangement would be met from the Home Ministry’s budget and would not impact Nagaland’s existing financial share.

The proposed interim arrangement is seen as a significant step toward addressing long-standing demands related to Frontier Nagaland, with the state government moving forward through legislative measures.
