According to official updates issued by the NEC, the funds were released during the period between February 1 and 15, 2026, under its ongoing programme to support infrastructure development and improve socio-economic conditions in the region.

A significant portion of the allocation has been earmarked for the construction of a modern agro market complex at Kiyamgei (Kyamgei) Village in Imphal East district. The proposed facility is expected to provide farmers with better infrastructure for the sale, storage, and marketing of agricultural produce while creating a more organised and efficient trading environment.

Officials said the agro market complex will play a crucial role in strengthening market linkages by connecting local farmers with buyers more effectively. The project is also expected to reduce post-harvest losses by providing improved handling and storage facilities, enabling farmers to secure better prices for their produce.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the agricultural value chain in Manipur by improving the movement of farm products from producers to markets. Better marketing infrastructure is expected to encourage higher agricultural productivity and contribute to increased incomes for farming communities.

The NEC stated that the release of funds reflects its continued commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that drive inclusive development across the Northeast. The investment is expected to provide a significant boost to Manipur's rural economy while reinforcing the Centre's vision of modernising agricultural infrastructure, empowering farmers, and promoting sustainable economic development in the state.
